DR. OSLAN JUMADI

Full Professor, Department of Biology Universitas Negeri Makassar, Indonesia

Plenary Address:

Harnessing Biotechnology for Sustainable Development: Innovations Driving Resilient Food Systems and Environmental Conservation

Dr. Oslan Jumadi is a prominent academic and researcher in the field of biology, currently affiliated with the Department of Biology at Hasanuddin University in Makassar, Indonesia. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Hasanuddin University in 1995, followed by advanced studies at Chiba University in Japan, where he earned a Master of Philosophy in Bioresources (2004-2006) and a Ph.D. in Bioresources (2006-2009).

Dr. Jumadi’s research interests focus on environmental sustainability, particularly the nitrogen and carbon cycles in soil systems. He has contributed significantly to the development of methodologies for biological nitrification inhibition and has engaged in various international research collaborations. Notably, he was a research fellow at the Japan International Research Centre for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) from October 2010 to March 2011, where he worked on evaluating biological nitrification inhibition through nitrous oxide emissions. His expertise has also been recognized through Fulbright Grants for Indonesian Lecturers, allowing him to assess the effects of nitrification inhibitors on ammonia-oxidizing bacteria at Utah State University.

In addition to his extensive research experience, Dr. Jumadi has participated in multiple international projects aimed at mitigating greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture and developing sustainable agricultural practices using biostimulants derived from Indonesian seaweeds. His recent work includes a project at Université Bretagne Sud in France focused on extracting sustainable liquid biostimulants from marine species.

Dr. Jumadi is actively involved in professional associations, serving as the Secretary of the Indonesian Society for Microbiology Chapter in South Sulawesi since 2011 and maintaining memberships in several other scientific organizations. His commitment to advancing biological sciences is reflected not only in his research but also in his dedication to mentoring students and contributing to academic discourse within Indonesia and beyond.

Be a part of the movement for a sustainable and innovative future! Whether a researcher, innovator, or industry expert, this summit is your chance to contribute to meaningful change.
