Abaca Research Program: Enhancing Disease Detection and Breeding Virus-Resistant, High-Quality Abaca in Caraga

Dr. Elizabeth P. Parac is a distinguished academic leader currently serving as Professor VI and Dean of the College of Agriculture and Agri-industries. With a robust background in plant pathology, molecular biology, and biotechnology, Dr. Parac has dedicated her career to advancing agricultural education and research. 

She earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Plant Pathology from the University of the Philippines, Los BaƱos, where she also received a scholarship from the DOST-SEI Scholarship Program. Her dissertation focused on the characterization of selected hybrids of abaca for resistance to various diseases, showcasing her commitment to enhancing crop resilience.

Dr. Parac’s academic journey began with a Master of Science in Plant Pathology from Visayas State University, where she explored the induction of disease resistance in abaca against Fusarium wilt disease. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, majoring in Plant Protection, from the same institution. Throughout her career, she has been instrumental in developing curricula that address contemporary agricultural challenges and has actively participated in numerous workshops and seminars aimed at faculty development and student engagement.

As Dean, Dr. Parac is committed to fostering an environment of excellence in teaching and research while addressing the evolving needs of the agricultural sector. Her leadership is characterized by a focus on innovation, collaboration, and the continuous improvement of academic programs to prepare students for global agricultural challenges.
